Fill Your Jars: An Invitation to Revival Part 1

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Monday, June 30, 2025

Today's Text: John 2:1-12

Key Verse: John 2:3, 7 (NIV): "When the wine was gone…Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water’; so they filled them to the brim.”

As we stand at the very middle of the year, we are also clearly in the midst of spiritual drought, political upheavals, and societal stagnation. That is why the Lord is bringing us to a season of mid-year revival this week. The Lord is always willing, ready and able to give life-giving water to our parched lives and world. The text before us today captures the essence of Jesus' inaugural miracle at the wedding in Cana, where He performed a water into wine miracle, which is a sign to indicate that He has the power to transform spiritual barrenness into abundant life.

We are therefore invited to reflect on our own spiritual state and consider how Jesus can turn our mundane experiences into extraordinary manifestation of His glory, even in the most trying times: like those of a mid year when challenges seem insurmountable; excitements of the year feel quieter; all the confetties have settled; resolutions forgotten; and excitements of prospects begin to wear thin; and we all have individual fair share of familiar weights of disappointment, exhaustion, or uncertainty creeping back in. Perhaps you had planned differently for the year; but the more deep into it you go, the more you feel empty than expectant.

We’ve all been there! We have hopeful plans and bright dreams, but the truth is, many are already tired and feeling hollow, feeling weary from half year of unrest and disappointments, and possibly too drained to think about what is ahead. But God always has a plan. In John 2:1-12, at a wedding in Cana, the wine ran out, and all that remained were empty jars. Those jars could have been seen as a failure or a limitation, but Jesus saw them as something more: He saw them as an invitation. Therefore, He instructed the servants to fill the jars with water, and when they obeyed, they got to drink the finest of wine instead of water. The emptiness they had felt became a vessel for God’s glory.

That’s what Jesus does. He meets us in our emptiness and fills us with His grace. He doesn’t require us to come full or put-together. He only asks us to come to Him—poured out, honest, and willing to trust Him with what little we have left.

So, on this last day of June, if you’re feeling empty; bring it to Jesus. Let Him fill the spaces of disappointment and uncertainty with His presence. Because when we offer Him our emptiness, we open the door for Him to do what only He can—turn it into something far better than we could imagine.

Action Steps: Identify one area where you feel empty—relationships, work, or personal goals—and take a small action, trusting God to guide you. This could mean joining a small Buble Study group, or setting aside time to pray about a specific need.

Quote for the Day: "God's plans are always good. They cannot be weathered by storms or circumstances." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for your word today. Thank you for bringing me to the middle of another year. I surrender the areas where I feel poured out. Fill me with your presence, your grace, and your strength. Help me to trust that you can use my emptiness for something beautiful. I place the rest of the year in your hands and trust you to guide me one step at a time — in Jesus’ most glorious name. Amen.
