1 Corinthians 16:13-14
*Key Verse:* 1 Corinthians 16:13 (KJV): “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men”
I have seen and read these exact words twice in the Bible. They first appeared in 1 Samuel 4:9; and both places convey the idea of a crucial timely call unto maturity. Just like the Philistines must quit themselves like men so that they become not servants unto the Hebrews; the believers in Christ must quit themselves like men to not become servants of sin. The idea of men either passages is neither a sexist disparity nor male superiority disposition; but something used as a metaphor for growth from childhood to adulthood.
We must act like men in order to stand against satan’s whirls. Only mature people stand fast, and strong. The church of Corinth was founded by Paul and have enjoyed great doctrine from the apostle; yet their spiritual immaturity was so severe that they could not resolve simple conflicts among themselves. Their immaturity made them ignore God’s Word, and embrace pagan philosophies instead—and so many fell into diverse errors. They err in worship, abandoned biblical doctrines, and abused spiritual gifts. We need not search too far to see that these errors are already plaguing us. Therefore, we are being charged, today, as they were, to quit ourselves as becometh matured believers.
Quote for the Day: “Valentine is around the corner, when many shall quit maturity and drag their honor to the mud. But as on all times, we have never needed believers to stand tall in the love of Christ, and in Christian maturity than we need it now.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I consecrate myself anew to you in every way. I ask you to give me the courage to stand strong for you daily, in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord, I pray. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
