Today’s Text: John 4:1-15
Key Verse: John 4:9 (ESV): “The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?”

One childhood inescapable fun memory for me is the sunbeam story and lessons from the Samaritan woman who met Jesus at Jacob’s well. Like her, we often approach people different than us with attitude of disdain, suspicion and judgement. Like her, we are racial: How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan? And we are prejudiced: Why do you, a man, ask this of me, a woman?
Indeed, we live in a culture where it’s so easy for us not to deal with strangers. Parents even warn children not to talk to strangers. We always go the wells— in which case are our daily places of humanity — with blocked minds, warring spirit, and blinded eyes like this Samaritan woman. Of course, we can bear to welcome, embrace and accept people we consider as highly influential and renown. But we are impatient and intolerant of the trampled and under privileged.
We say or practicalize her words such as: why do you, a white ask of me a black; or what do you an alien have to do with me a national; or why would you a laity talk to me an ordained? It could be anything, but the lesson is clear. Seeing others from a prejudiced mindset can lead to a loss of blessings and to missing our golden moment of opportunity. We must see in others what Jesus sees in them. We must never allow physical walls to prevent the spiritual blessings from reaching us and the people we are meant to bless.
Quote for the Day: "When Jesus is at the well, we must draw out water with the spirit not with pitchers: with an empty spirit and not a heavy one.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, I approach the well of salvation longing to encounter You in a new way. Help me to love You and those you love with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
