Seeing People Through the Eyes of Jesus (Part 2)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, May 22, 2020

Today’s Text: Exodus 1:7-11

Key Verse: Exodus 1:10 (KJV): Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply ...

To be like Pharaoh or see others as he saw them is to live in needless selfish fear and unbridled suspension of people. When you have regard for mundane things as if materials have supremacy over dignity of souls; when whatever seems to interfere with that unbridled sense of supremacy is, if possible, to be swept completely out of the way; when others are dealt with in merciless fashion; these are evidence of the spirit that sees of others as Pharaoh sees them.

On the contrary, in the eyes of Jesus, every human has dignity. He was much displeased when his disciples would suffer little children not to come to Him. He was unhappy with calling down fire on the enemy. When his men would despise the blind Bartimaeus he would stop to heal; when a woman was bad enough to be stoned, He would condemn not; and when no one would have an aught with Zacchaeus, He would lodge with him.

From yesterday, the Lord started taking us through a journey of seeing people through the eyes of Jesus. The core of this matter is: genuine encounter with Jesus changes our perception of God, self, others and things. Today’s message is a challenge that all who profess to be Christ’s must desist from seeing others through the eyes of Pharaoh. No one can be like Pharaoh and be Christlike at the same time.

Quote for the Day: "Let him be a renowned Christian or if he likes, an arch minister; but the seed and the spirit controlling him is Pharaoh’s: If, in any way, he disparages others based on their class, color or creed; or hates to see them progressive and happy.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, bless me with sweet and kind spirit towards others. Help me to live and love each day like Your kind and lovely Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
