Seeing People Through the Eyes of Jesus (Part 5)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, May 25, 2020

Today’s Text: Esther 3:1-6

Key Verse: Esther 3:6 (ESV): “But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone. So, as they had made known to him the people of Mordecai, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordecai, throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus.

God has revealed Himself in two great dispensations, and throughout both, we can see and learn the life He expects from us and that which He does not. The Old Testament foreshadows everything in preparation to the spirit of the New, which is the Spirit of Christ. So far from the Old, we have learnt from the suspicious eyes of Pharaoh, the selfish eyes of Saul and the tyranny of Nebuchadnezzar.

Today’s text presents us the dramatic story of Haman and how God’s invisible hands orchestrated his downfall to show us how not to be, and how not to treat others. Proverbs 16:18 say that “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” Seeing others through proudful or exaggerated self esteem that looks down on others and seeks to trample them, like Haman, is evil; and unlike Christ.

In this man’s story, we learn that whatever goes around comes around. His conspiracy to wipe out entire Jewish nation, simply because a Jew (Mordecai) refused to bow to him, is evil in God’s sight. Some people still live like that today. But that’s not how God wants us to see and treat others. Through Queen Esther, God reversed the edict on Jews, foiled Hama’s evil plan and his self elevation becomes self deception, and ended up in self destruction on the gallows he had designed for Mordecai. It is time you quit seeing others through the eyes of Haman and learn to see through the eyes of Jesus.

Quote for the Day: "Christ has so many malevolent critics. We shall have many. He did not hate any of them, we should not hate any of ours.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, purge me of any spirit or seed of Haman, which seeks to trample on others and take revenge, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
