Seeing People Through the Eyes of Jesus (Part 7)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, May 27, 2020

Today’s Text: Matthew 2:13-17

Key Verse: Matthew 2:16 (ESV): “Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men.

In our unfolding meditational series on how to see people through the eyes of Jesus; the journey takes us back to some New Testament’s examples of people who saw others unlike Christ. And our spotlight falls upon Herod called the Great, who was made procurator of Judea by Julius Caesar in 47BC. He was a ruthless tyrant, who because of jealousy killed all the male children under two years in Bethlehem. and in all Judaea.

If you let the paranoia of jealousy rule your heart, you make yourself a type of Herod; not a type of Christ. But God wants us to rather “let this mind be in you which also is in Christ.” (Phil 2:5) The spirit of terror always seizes and haunts a man who choses to let the spirit and feeling of Herod, rather that of Christ, be in him. Herod skew children and murdered John but no sooner realized that no man can stop God when Jesus energes ominously as the true King not just of the Jews but of all the earth.

Quote for the Day: "The natural tendency of a canal man is selfishness. The impulse of selfishness is jealousy, and the result of jealousy is wickedness.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, let the axe of Your word root out every tree, in me, which are not planted by You, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
