Strike the Ground

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Tuesday, July 21, 2026

Today’s Text: 2 Kings 13:14–19

Key Verse: 2 Kings 13:18 (ESV) — “Then he said, ‘Take the arrows,’ and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, ‘Strike the ground with them.’ And he struck three times and stopped.”

God often places victory within reach, but He also asks for response. In today’s text, Elisha’s instruction was simple: “Strike the ground.” Yet the king’s half-hearted obedience revealed a heart that expected blessing without burden.

This is a word for every believer who wants divine intervention but resists persistent faith. The prophet did not tell the king to admire the arrows, but to strike with them. The power was not in the prophet’s hand alone, but in the king’s willingness to act fully on God’s word.

“Strike the ground” speaks of prayer that presses on, faith that refuses to quit, and obedience that does not stop too soon. Too many people stop at three strikes when heaven was prepared for more. The tragedy of partial pursuit is that it limits the expression of God’s intended abundance.

God is not asking us for performance; He is asking us for perseverance. Sometimes the difference between partial breakthrough and fuller victory is the stamina to keep striking the ground in faith. Where discouragement says, “That is enough,” faith says, “I will pray again, believe again, and obey again.”

Child of God, today’s call is to refuse spiritual laziness and to resist shallow compliance. When God gives you a word, give Him a full-hearted response. Strike the ground with expectation, with zeal, and with holy persistence, because your obedience may determine the measure of your breakthrough.

Action Steps: Identify one area where you have become passive in prayer or obedience. Take a deliberate step today to persist—pray longer, trust deeper, or obey more fully. Ask the Lord for renewed zeal so you do not stop short of what He intended for you.

Let Us Pray: Lord, You are faithful, wise, and powerful. Deliver me from partial obedience and weary faith. Teach me to strike the ground with persistence until Your purpose is fulfilled in my life. Strengthen my heart to trust You more, pray more, and obey more. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
