Today's Text: Psalm 110:1-7
Key Verse: Psalm 110:1 (KJV): "The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.’”

This Psalm stands in its own category of spiritual revelation in which David, perhaps, caught a foreshadow of the royal exaltation of the Messiah. In this uncommon prophetic revelational psalm, he (David) saw Yahweh or Jehovah speaking to Adonai or the Messiah, who is our Lord, about His future reign and exaltation. The New Testament unequivocally reveals that Jesus is the fulfillment of this prophecy as the exalted Christ. Even, Jesus Himself uses this Psalm (in Matthew 22:41-46) to challenge the Pharisees and reveal His divine nature of the Messiah, not just as David's descendant, but His Lord.
This verse is the Old Testament foreshadow of the New Testament's identity and authirity of the Messiah as Lord. So, "The Lord said unto my Lord" isn't just a casual statement; it's a divine pronouncement from God the Father to the Son, same manifest person in redemptive office; who alone has the position of ultimate power, authority, and honor to sit at the right hand of power and glory, establishing to Christ's enthronement and reign in heaven, and signifying His current position of authority and power over all creation. In ancient cultures, sitting at the right hand of a king or ruler was the highest place of prestige and delegated authority. For our Lord Jesus, this is foretelling His ascension into heaven and His rightful place of preeminence at the Father's side.
It has pleased God, through Christ's triumph on the cross, to make His enemies His footstool, a phrase describing the ultimate triumph of the Messiah and His complete subjugation and victory over all adversaries from the cross to the final judgment. This indicates that Jesus's reign is not just powerful but also ultimately victorious, with all opposition to Him eventually overcome. This isn't about human effort but about God's sovereign plan to establish Christ's universal dominion. Why is this significant to us as Christian? In this verse, we have a revealed foundation to our faith in Christ's divinity, Messiahship, resurrection, exaltation, authority, enthronement, future triumph over sin, death, and all evil, and His eventual return to fully establish His kingdom.
Action Steps: Reflect on the immense power and authority of Jesus, our Lord. How does this understanding of His supreme reign at God's right hand bring you comfort and confidence in your faith? Consider how you can live in light of His ultimate victory today, and in anticipation of the future.
Quote for the Day: "Believers rejoice and walk tall in victory because of the LORD's divinity, authority, place of honor and power at God's right hand. It is in this that we are assured of ultimate victory over all adversaries." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Word in Psalm 110:1, which reveals the authority and reign of your Son, Jesus Christ. We acknowledge and believe in Jesus's victory over all powers and principalities. We pray for the manifestation of His kingdom in our lives and in the world. We as, Lord, that You help us to live in light of this truth, to submit to Jesus's authority, and to find our hope and strength in His victory. May we be faithful followers, participating in His reign as we await His return — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
