Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, May 8, 2020
Today’s Text: 1 Samuel 3:1-10
Key Verse: 1 Samuel 3:10 (ASV): “And Jehovah came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel said, Speak; for thy servant heareth.”

Sometimes God speaks from a distance; but often, because He is aware of our noisome encumbrances that prevent us from hearing Him, He comes down in His great mercy and love to make sure we can hear Him. He did that for Samuel when he was still a child and the parameters of a child were as real with him as it is still with many of us.
Unfortunately, while God wants us to grow past our infant life, we still carry those childish noise over to the adult life. However, today, as in the days of Samuel, our loving God is standing near us, speaking with a piercing voice — enough of the noise. He (God is will to help us hear Him. It may take Him to send an angel to oppose Balaam before he could hear Him. When the spiritual mentoring of Eli could not avail for Samuel, He stood at the door.
Today, Jesus stands at the door and knocks. When shall you give up the noises — from the hustle bustle, from the cell phone and social media, and from all your psychosocial stressors — so you may hear His voice. When shall you get to the door, where He knocks and calls, and say, with a childish surrender: “Speak, Lord, for thy servant heareth.”
Quote for the Day: "What God seeks is an unmurmuring submission from man.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, give me the calmness of Spirit so I may hear your sweet calm call despite my noisome world, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
