Though your Beginning was Small

Today’s Text: Job 8:7-9

Key Verse: Job 8:7 (NKJV): “Though your beginning was small, Yet your latter end would increase abundantly.”

There is a prophetic association between small and great. Consider the prophetic dimension of what God said about Bethlehem Ephrathah: “though you are small.., out of you will come… a ruler over Israel” (Micah 5:2). I don’t know how little you feel right now; or the size of strength in you today; but the Lord wants you to take a moment and ponder upon His word.

You may or may not be familiar with the story behind Brooklyn Bridge, but I’ll tell you. When it was completed in 1883, it was considered “the eighth wonder of the world,” but magnificent as it is, it started out with a single, slender wire strung from one bridge tower to the other. Good or great things always have small start. Even our Lord began as a small baby, born at a small placed in a small town, beside a tiny feeding trough.

When Bildad said those words in our key text for this morning, he was not considered a prophet; but our surest prophetic moments may be in the most ordinary moments of a little conversation. What of Micah, who is considered a minor prophet? But a gave a most extraordinary prophecy about the humble and small start of Jesus. The brighter part of this is that God always keeps the future better for His children. Haggai 2:9 speaks of how the latter glory of this house should be greater than the former, and how God, in that same horrible place, promised to give peace.

Whatever you are going through today, do not let it stop you from dreaming big. It’s okay to start small, my friend. It’s okay! Even  if it requires some long wait, or fresh start. Just hang in there and do what you can one day at a time. Always remember how Jesus, for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame. That’s how not to give it up. That’s how not to yield to that urge to quit. God knows the thoughts that He thinks toward you: He is bringing you out of that smallness into an incredible increase.

Quote for the Day: “The world system wrongly arrogates big things having small beginnings to Lawrence of Arabia, but it is indeed the Bible words of Zechariah to Zerubbabel.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer:  Dear Lord, I pray that you will guide me in all ways and help me to make the best of the situation. Help me to find happiness in small things, and bring me the peace and joy that I seek in life — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
