Today’s Text: John 4:31–38
Key Verse: John 4:34 (ESV) — “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.”

God does not call us to survive on outward things alone, but to be sustained by inward purpose. Jesus teaches us that true **food** is not merely what fills the stomach, but what fuels the soul in obedience to the Father.
In today’s text, our Lord was speaking of a hunger deeper than physical appetite. While the disciples were thinking of bread, Jesus was thinking of assignment. He was telling them that the will of God is not a burden to the obedient heart, but nourishment to the surrendered life.
Just as food gives strength to the body, obedience gives strength to the spirit. The soul that feeds on God’s purpose becomes steady, focused, and fruitful. There is a kind of satisfaction that comes not from consumption, but from consecration; not from indulgence, but from service.
Christ shows us that spiritual passion is the appetite of a holy life. When a person is truly hungry for God, doing His will becomes delight, and finishing His work becomes joy. The work of heaven is not sustained by enthusiasm alone, but by a deep and constant desire to please the Father.
This is the secret of lasting usefulness: to let divine purpose become our daily sustenance. Many are fed by praise, comfort, and convenience, but the mature believer is fed by obedience, sacrifice, and mission. The more we labor for God in love, the more strengthened we become by His grace.
Child of God, ask yourself today: what is your food? Is your soul nourished by applause, pleasure, or ease, or by the will of Him who sent you? A life that feeds on the Father’s will will never run dry, for God Himself supplies the strength required to finish His work.
Action Steps: Examine what most energizes your heart today and compare it with the will of God. Surrender one appetite that has distracted you from purpose. Choose one clear act of obedience that moves you toward finishing God’s work in your life.
Quote for the Day: “Physical hunger drives us to bread, but spiritual hunger drives us to obedience. The soul is strongest when it feeds on the Father’s will.” — Simon Olatunji #quotablequote
Let Us Pray: Lord Jesus, teach me to hunger for what truly sustains. Let my delight be in doing the will of the One who sent me and in finishing His work. Deliver me from empty cravings and strengthen me with holy passion, that my life may be nourished by obedience and fruitful in Your service. In Your powerful name I pray. Amen.
