“A New Influence” (Part Two)

Today’s Scripture Threshing for Thursday, June 6, 2019

Today’s Text: Romans 8:1-17

Key Verses: Romans 8:12 (ESV): “So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.”

Yesterday, we turned our spotlight on man’s intuitive nature of control; how we all, from infancy, have a desire to control our world. We love our own independent way, and would not let anything have power over us. Rather, we seek control over things, circumstances, future, people, or if possible, God. Unfortunately, though we hate control, our self-love and self-centeredness attitudes indicate the flesh-controlled life.

Under the Adamic nature, we are subject to the fleshly control; but through the new Adam (v.12), we are to be led and controlled by God’s Spirit (v.14). Until we let God control our lives, we are shackled and destroyed. The new control gives us self control — denial of the flesh — withholding from our dying body, things it loves and demands but are in enmity with our eternal Spirit. Today’s meditation is an admonition for you to turn the controls of your life over to God. Ask Him to change you and help you to love Him and others.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to appreciate that you have given me your Spirit without limit, to guide and influence me to do your will. Help me realize that the only limitation to the Holy Spirit in me, is me—so that I will not grieve Him but yield to Him. In Jesus name. Amen.
