Today’s Text: John 21:18-23
Key Verse: Amos 3:3 (NIV) — “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?”

This morning, we have one text that have been applied to all manners of relationship because of its broad philosophical spectrum. You can never go wrong to make sure you go with someone you agree with morally, spiritually and psychologically in any kind of relationship you are in. However, it will be very helpful to find out who the two people are, which are referred to in the original context of our text. Is it two prophets; Amos and another? Or is it God and the prophet? A patient and open-minded reading of the entire text brings out the God and Israel, the expression denoting, not merely God’s knowledge of a man, but man’s response to God. His practical obedience, his communion of heart and will, are described as “walking with” or “before God.”
We all want God to walk with us, don't we?! We need Him to be with us: guiding, strengthening, and shielding us; but do we also concern ourselves about living and walking agreeably to His will? Is our life in harmony with Him? Amos’ entire rhetoric comes with a series of parabolic utterances, which all require or anticipate the same negative answer. This is a great teaching methodology that aims at emphasizing cause and effect. It is like saying: “You want God to walk with you? Sure! Just make sure your life is in agreement with His word!” Our human concept of fraternal agreement does not work here. We don't need our human friends to be agreed with us about everything; yet we go with them as long as we wish to keep each others’ company. But this ideology does not work in divine relation. Jesus said “You are my friends if you you do what I command.” Stress is laid upon the pronoun, “you” to indicate that whatever we make of the blessing and possibility of friendship with God is our choice.
Quote for the Day: “We may bridge the distance between heaven and earth, and enjoy a walk with God, as long as we live agreeably with Him.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, I thank You that You will guide and teach me, as I let Your word and truth turn my heart from sin and renew my mind in goodness and truthfulness. Let me always feel the joy of 2 Corinthians 6:16 which says, “I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people, ” in Jesus's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
