A Wow or a Woe!

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, May 7, 2023

Today’s Text: Isaiah 6:1-13

Key Verses: Isaiah 6:5 (ESV): “And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!"

It’s another Sunday, and believers across the world will gather in worship at different places, times and locations. Some online and others real time; but however and wherever we worship, we all need a correct view of God before we can have a correct and a realistic view of self.

A fractured view of God brings a reduced concern for sin and an inflated view of self. It must be concerning when our services and especially the preaching of God’s word are greeted with chanting of “wow!” always. It reveals a people complacent in complicity or self righteousness. It shows that we may not have seen the Lord in His true glory.

An encounter with the holiness of God will always certainly reveal our sinfulness and a new thirst for a changed life. Unfortunately, the deeper we are in gross conformity to the world system the more satisfied and complacent we are and unable to come to our knees in proper response to worship and the revelation of God. It is a pity that our generation is sinking more and more below God's standard that we chant “wow” even when our situations, like Isaiah’s call for a”woe is me!”

Quote for the Day: “A right view of God brings a correct view of sin and a radical turn to God.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I come before you today, humbly, needy of your grace, praying for the power of your Holy Spirit to fill me afresh. Please help me to return to true fellowship with You once again, and stir in me a radical view of your holiness — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.

Your Darling Bishop (DaBishop)
