Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, February 25, 2020
Today’s Text: Hebrews 11:1-9
Key Verse: Hebrews 11:6 (ESV): ”And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
Coming or drawing near to God is a very powerful phrase, clearly depicting man’s initial unregenerate distance from the creator. Humanity is essentially far from God due to the Fall, and our sins separate us from Him. Because we decline His love, we are brought under an unnecessary slavish dread of Him who lavished His reckless love on us. And we bring our own banishment upon ourselves. But good news is: we can draw near by faith.
Faith in Jesus, His dear Son, removes the gap of sin, and gives us another access to God as our father. The idea we seek him does not mean of his presence and favor; they do not always realize his nearness unto them, or they would not need to seek after him. No man could thus please God, unless he had first come to Him, and no man could come to a God whom he did not earnestly seek, and no man could seek the God he did not believe. Faith in God positions us for divine help and blessings.
Quote for the Day: "Two inseparable and amazing aspects of divine character are God’s availability and approachability to those who seek Him.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Father in Heaven, help me never to trade your presence with any earthly pleasure, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
