Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, November 2, 2021
Today’s Text: 1 Samuel 10:1-13
Key Verses: 1 Samuel 10:11 (KJV): “And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?”
Some people say the miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit have ceased. Others say no, they are still very much at work. How can we be sure that God stills works in the world; and that His gifts and calling are without repentance? During the ministry of Charles Spurgeon, it was reported how, on a Monday evening prayer meeting, a prophetic unction came upon him and suddenly interrupted his sermon: He pointed in a certain direction, and said, "Young man, those gloves you are wearing have not been paid for; you have stolen them from your employer!" After the meeting the young man came to the vestry pale, trembling, and confessing that he had stolen the gloves! He promised never to steal again and begged Spurgeon not to expose him to his employer.
Many times in my ministry, I’ve seen similar, and a more direct manifestation of the power gift of prophecy, word of knowledge and discernment. God always desires to reveal deep secrets to His men when they are in tune with Him. One of the three signs of which Saul’s election was confirmed was that the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied and was turned into another man. The same is true under the New Covenant. The Holy Spirit was promised and released upon every believer so that we are turned into God’s veritable vessels. The miracle is still at work today. It is a sign that God is with us. As it was for Saul, the power signs gives witness to the fact of God’s anointing on us. Every believer in Christ is sealed for signs and wonders. Every child of God is His priest and king. Every one of us is among His prophets.
Quote for the Day: “Spiritual endowment is God’s provision of survival strategy for His people. They are needed more to survive perilous times than any other times.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help us so that we are guided to realize Your great gifts available to us. May we always be open to the direction of Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D
