Today’s Text: Psalm 95:1-11
Key Verse: Psalm 95:2 (ESV): “Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise.”
How awesome would it be if we all learn to always count our blessings each day, and give God adequate thanks for them?! Unfortunately, thankfulness seems to be a lost art today. Our greed and insatiable nature rob us of this virtue. We always watch out for the few people whom we think are better than us (who may not actually be), and often fail to see greater number of others whom we are better than! Of course, we don't always have what we want or need; people and things disappoint us, and often leave us indifferent; a couple of desires may not have been granted; or something totally goes off plan — whatever the case may be — we must never feel let down by God! Because, indeed, He never lets us down.
Instead, we must realize that we owe God praise and thanks at every season — not necessarily for what He has done; but for who He is. That we are able to come into the presence of the mighty God who created all things already gives us enough ground to sing joyful song and resonant shouts of thanksgiving and psalms to Him. Are you in the habit of complaining and grumbling? Or are you one who always seeks to heartily celebrate the goodness of the Lord? This text calls us to a life of profound adoration and worship. The term “let us” is an invitation that: whatever life brings, we must restore the lost art of thankfulness and learn to give thanks to our Heavenly Father who always knows and does what is best for us. So, remember to always give thanks to the Lord.
Quote for the Day: “In Jesus Christ our Lord, all ceremonial sacrifices have been put to an end. Our only remaining sacrifice is praise and thanksgiving.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, teach me to offer you a heart of thanksgiving and praise in all my daily experiences of life. Teach me to be joyful always, to pray continually and to give thanks in all my circumstances, in Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
