Today’s Text: Matthew 16:13-20
Key Verse: Matthew 16:15 (NKJV): “He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?””

When Barack Obama wrote his second book, “Thoughts on reclaiming the “American dream,” it became number one on both the New York Times and Amazon bestsellers lists in the fall of 2006 after Obama had been endorsed by Oprah Winfrey. There is always power in what you say about another, or what they say about you—and it matters now. So, we’re reminded, today of how Jesus sat the disciples down and had a theological conversation with them by first asking them a fairly easy question, “Who do people say that I am?”
Please do not forget how God said unto Moses, “I Am That I Am” as though our limited thoughts of Him or our doubts does not matter yet, the same Lord and Jehovah, in the person of Jesus Christ, the source to which we all look for redemption wants us to care about what people say. Unfortunately, most people, unlike Peter let flesh and blood inspire their thoughts of Him and others. People always seek to control our opinions of others through blackmail, backbiting and backstabbing—we must remember that they made up opinions about Jesus too, even to His disciples.
Jesus cares more what someone is or has been to you rather than what others say they are. Are you say that person that is easily influenced by others? Do you others’ opinion just for personal gains or keep to be part of a group? If so, you are not really a true person and your personality, thoughts and feelings can never emerge. If you want to become your own person, and fester in Christ’s prophetic concerning you, you must let the Holy Spirit connect you to God’s opinion and not others’.
Quote for the Day: “God never intend the opinions of others to influence our lives. Our thoughts matter more than those who seek to control them., and we are responsible for whatever our thoughts and actions are.“
Prayer: Dear Lord, Father of glory, give me the spirit of wisdom, revelation, knowledge and understanding of who you are, and a genuine revelation of others around me — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
