Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, November 21, 2021
Today’s Text: Romans 12:9–12
Key Verse: Romans 12:11–12 (ESV): “Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
We are daily surrounded by discouraging factors in every front. The urge to quit is real regardless of how mature you are in faith. We face discouragement when we burn out. We are discouraged when people we trust desert us. We feel discouraged when outcomes are different from intention especially when they are not anything near our desires. Discouragement is real; and it’s a sobering human reality. Even our Lord Jesus, the Christ, in the days of His flesh was subject to the urge to quit. But because of the joy that was set before Him, He was determined, endured the cross and achieved our redemption by His cross. We too can follow in His steps. We can be determined, and overcome.
Today’s meditation puts the spiritual key to finishing strong like Christ into our hands. All we need to pump our spirit and keep going regardless of fear, frustration, fatigue or fainting is to shun slothfulness in zeal, and daring to be fervent in spirit when discouragement comes. When Abraham Lincoln prepared to sign the Emancipation Proclamation, his pen was already on the signature line when he paused for a moment, and then dropped the pen. To explain this action, President Lincoln said, "If my name goes into history, it will be for this act, and if my hand trembles when I sign it, there will be some who will say, 'he hesitated.'" He then turned to the table, took up the pen, and boldly signed his name. Don’t you ever hesitate or ever give in to the urge to give your journey over. What do you do? Be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord, rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Quote for the Day: “No secret of success is better proven or more profound than getting up when you fall down.. No one ever stands tall or strong who has never fallen down.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please cause Your Holy Spirit, the spirit of determination and motivation, to rest upon me till I make it to Your presence where my crown of life is sure. Give me endurance O Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D
