Be Still (Part Eight)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, March 25, 2022

Today’s Text: Mark 4:35-41

Key Verse: Mark 4:39 (ESV): “And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”

Evenings always come. As long as we are here on this side of the divide, winds, too, always rise — and the sun always sets. There is no human, great or small, that is not used to such squalls. That is why even Christ’s own disciples were in a troubled Sea, in the same boat in which the Master sought rest. As veteran sailors, “We got this!” they thought. And indeed, they probably tried. They pulled so hard to keep their troubled boat on top of the situation. But the more they tried, the worse things grew, and the more novice the veterans began to look. That probably is someone’s story. We have all been at different similar crossroads in life when we cannot but grow alarmed amid the things we thought we really have control over.

But God always uses such situations to speak to our troubled spirits. First, the troubled disciples cried to Jesus. There is no situation that Jesus cannot take care of if we cry to Him. Like the disciples worried, it is human to worry if God cares or not, but, trust me, He cares. Whatever that situation is that makes you feel the Master has gone to sleep when storms come upon you; whatever that rolling billow is that makes you think He is ignorant of, or indifferent to, your plight; all you need to do is get past them to the feet of Jesus. The disciples were wrong in their fright, but they never missed their right to call upon Jesus, who is the Master of the raging storms. We can never go wrong if those fears drive us to Jesus — even if we come with unnecessary but uncontrollable tears and terror, if we are at His feet, we are sure of one thing always: every raging storm will always be still.

Quote for the Day: “We may come with fears or tears; but as long as we fly to the feet of Christ, every fiery storm will always fade in perfect still.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, my hope is in You alone. I trust you for a fresh mercy each new day. I depend on You for Your comforting embrace, and believe You to always calm every storm — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
