Believe the Impossible

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, January 9, 2023

Today’s Text: Joshua‬ ‭14:1–15

Key Verse: Joshua 14:8 (ESV): “But my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the Lord my God.”

One of the profoundest statements made by Aiden Wilson Tozer (popularly known as A. W. Tozer) is: “God is looking for people through whom He can do the impossible. What a pity that we plan only the things we can do by ourselves.” This is so true of the people of Israel, and even more true of many of us today. But there are several important lessons for us to learn from today’s scriptural text. When God sets the Promised Land before a person or people, He may not have already driven out all the the men of Anakim, and the great fortification of the cities may still be there. But if, like Caleb, you believe the impossible, God is able to bring you into your promised inheritance despite all the obstacles. Those obstacles are positioned by the enemy, not to prevent God; because nothing can stop God. The obstacles you face are to prevent you by making possessing those promises of God in your life look impossible to you.

Whatever look like insurmountable mountains in your life: any difficulty that appears impossible and is affecting your peace of mind — be it a difficult personal project, an elective surgery, hormonal imbalances, a difficult examination, reproductive problems, sleep disorder, marital issues, terminal illness, promise and fail syndrome, or a combination of spiritual and social economic problems — if you believe God, all those issues are actually going to be your opportunity to gain better insight into the character of God as the God of all possibilities. He will do the impossible and level every mountain standing in your path in Jesus name. God only wants you to trust Him even though things appear impossible. In the New Testament account of Mary, the mother of our Lord; though it did not fit the prospect of possibility that the promised Messiah would be born is such miraculous manner as declared by the angel; but she believed that “with God nothing shall be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)

Quote for the Day: “Apparently possible or not, believable or not, no word of God can ever be void of power. We only need to believe to see the glory of God.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer:  Dear Lord, I thank you because nothing in my life and in all the world is impossible for you to do. I pray that in any looming darkness of impossibility, I will not waver in my faith. But I will trust in your mighty power, by which nothing is impossible. Lord, I believe and claim your promises for my life—in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
