Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, May 1, 2020
Today’s Text: Psalm 119:114-117
Key Verse: Psalm 119:114 (KJV): “Thou art my hiding place and my shield:
I hope in thy word.”
Have you ever felt like hiding under your own skin or burrowing a hole in the ground to take cover? Well, you probably feel so right now! At times, events happen in our lives that make us seek a hiding. Our present global event leaves us with no choice than to be forced into the hiding of our homes. The stay at home global cry points us to the refugee nature of our world; and to the fact that we all need a sure hiding place — where the scourge of evil and the hands of ravaging killer-virus cannot discover us.
Today’s Psalm describes God both as our needed “hiding place” and our "shield." God is not just the refuge, but He is our weapon of protection thatA prevents arrows, bullets or swords from touching us — The two expressions mean more than safety. They mean life. He prayed: “that I may live” because he was conscious of his liability to a ravaging evil. So, "Hold Thou me up." He cried. Since we too cannot stand without God; since we all totter on the verge of ruin, and are unable to save ourselves, let us cry to God to hold us up, and we shall be safe. Happy New Month.
Quote for the Day: "Recognition of our helplessness and dependency brings us to the place where we hide ourselves as God’s refugees.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, I lift up my eyes to you this new month. Please be my hiding, my help and defense from all alarms, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
