Building to Pattern (Part One)

Today’s Text: Exodus 31: 1-11

Key Verse: Exodus 31:6 (BSB) — “Moreover, I have selected Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, as his assistant. I have also given skill to all the craftsmen, that they may fashion all that I have commanded you."

Looking at the creation perfection and the order of the cosmic pattern, one cannot but see a very perfectly orderly creator behind all the complexities of creative order. We already know through Scripture the ease by which God brings forth all the order. And of course, it is also wisdom to see how pattern and blue prints must be so important to God in his choice of Joseph, the carpenter as the human father of Jesus.

God takes building according to specifications so seriously that He had to miraculously give special skills in divers workmanship through His Spirit to Bezaleel and Aholiab so that the temple works may be built according to pattern. These were naturally untrained, inexperienced and wanting in the assignment but God had to breathe the graces upon them so that without some sort of guide or instructions they would be work out just what God instructed Moses. To do God’s work according to God’s specifications, men and women that He calls must first realize their inability and then recognize the graces they have received which make them fit for the service.
