Captain of Salvation for Everyone

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, April 11, 2020

Today’s Text: Hebrews 2:5-10

Key Verse: Hebrews 2:9 (NLT): “What we do see is Jesus, who for a little while was given a position “a little lower than the angels”; and because he suffered death for us, he is now “crowned with glory and honor.” Yes, by God’s grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone.

We have one of the most profound but apparently difficult phrases of the New Testament before us today — “Jesus tasted death for everyone.” which encapsulates all the gospels. It reveals that our Lord suffered and triumphed over death "on account of" all men so that through His sacrificial death on the cross, the eternal inheritance that we forfeited through sin are being atoned for.

Christ’s death is essential to the fulfillment of God’s just love and character in dealing with sin, reconciling and redeeming us to Himself. Jesus suffered to empathize with us in our suffering; set us a perfect example in our suffering; atone for our sins through His blood of eternal covenant; reconcile sinners to God; and bring many sons and daughters to glory. Please don’t let His death be in vain over you. Accept Him into your life. Believe Him with your heart. Confess Him as your personal Lord and Savior.

Quote for the Day: "The Captain of our salvation lowered Himself for us so that we may be raised with Him in glory.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for such an amazing love and grace that is made available for everyone in and through my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
