Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, May 5, 2021
Today’s Text: Mark 5:1-20
Key Verse: Mark 5:19 (NIV) — “Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”
Today, we are blessed with an exciting story of God’s redemption in the life of a man who had been demon-possessed, who now stands as a type of you and me. We have been out of our minds and torn apart from sanity. It is by the divine encounter that we are restored, and have been called to be living testimonial to the saving grace of Jesus, but the light must shine from our own household.
True to the Christian heart, we all want to become unselfish in carrying out the light and demeanor of our changed life to faraway mountains, tribes, and nations; but Jesus would always have us begin at home. He commanded as follows: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)
Our witness must begin from right where we are — our Jerusalem!
Meanwhile, today’s Christians want to go overseas to do missions whereas the neediest mission fields are their own very homes; among their own people; and right in the community, they live in. Jesus told the formerly demon-possessed man to go home to his friends so they could see what He had done for him (v.19). He told His disciples to begin in Jerusalem, then to Judea, and then to Samaria before the ends of the earth. Charity must begin at home: Are you telling your family — that’s Jerusalem; your friends — that’s Judea; your neighbors and coworkers — that’s Samaria what Christ has done for you?
Quote for the Day: “Christians have the command the spread the gospel to all the world. And the world spread gives the clue to the osmotic fact that we must begin from where we Arelie.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O Lord make me a true light that beams its radiance from where I am to the farthest sight of darkness, in Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
