Today’s Text: John 10:1-10
Key Verse: John 10:7 (ESV): “So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.”
Using a wrong door can take a person around life’s vicious circles. It is like a man who was in desperate need of medical attention but did not have money or insurance to cover the need—who then went to a free clinic. On getting there, the office has two doors one with a sign that reads major; and the other with a sign that reads minor. He did not think he had anything major wrong with him, so he walked through the door that read minor. Then he faces two more doors: one reading mental and the other reading physical. He did not think he had anything mentally wrong with him, so he walked through the door that read physical. But then came into another office with two doors: One reading surgical and the other reading medical. He did not think he needed surgery; so he walked through the door that read medical and found himself on the street again.
Why are most people in diverse life’s vicious circles and keep returning to the same spot of need? Most have been shown the door but our choices keep taking us through wrong doors. In this “I am” statement, Jesus clearly points out for us the exclusive nature of salvation. He gives no apologies to the fact: He is “the door,” not “one of the doors.” We always claim we have many doors to choose from in life. Whereas God opens His door for us, most people prefer to open others doors for themselves. As it was for the Church at Philadelphia, there is an opened door of opportunity by Jesus Christ for us today—He himself is the door—only through Him is salvation possible. The popularity of pluralism and liberal teachings of today’s society or of unconvinced religious leaders not withstanding, Jesus makes it clear that any religious leader who offers another way or means other than Him is a “thief” and a “robber.”
Quote for the Day: “Jesus is both our Shepherd and the Door, and the key to coming into His sheepfold is believing the gospel, repenting of sin, and coming to Him.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I confess my sins and ask for your forgiveness. Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Take complete control of my life and take me in to your sheepfold. Help me to walk in Your footsteps daily as my Shepherd and my door — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
