Come Ye Yourselves Apart

Writer: Dr. Simon OlatunjiDr. Simon Olatunji

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, February 6, 2020

Our Text: Mark 6:30-44

Key Verses: Mark 6:31 (KJV): “And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.”

We are blessed this morning with the very first gospel text that presents us an account in which all the four streams of gospel run almost directly parallel in all the different stories from beginning to end, of how our Lord having noticed the frights of some, provides rest for them; the terror of others, and the refuge He offers; or the hunger of others, and feeds them to satisfaction; and then notices the toils of his disciples, and tired they are, and offers them rest.

Is it not so true that almost all of us run so busy schedule that throng upon us like floods? Is this not especially true of us, Christ's disciples, upon whom throng of people are coming and going? Even though we are a source of feeding men's souls and body, and we even see Satan fall like lightening, we have a text before us today, in which our Lord is teaching us the power of stepping aside and renewing our own strength. The tender invitation of Christ for His men to come apart and rest awhile is timeless for all. So, don't die or quench your spirit's fire before your time, come apart and rest awhile.

Quote for the Day: "There's no source of strength we all have like prayer. Christian soldiers must learn when to retire or they'd be tired, and when to refire or they are fired.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, give me the grace to heed your call unto your presence, away from every noice and distraction. Teach me the power of returning and reconnecting fresh grace, in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
