Today’s Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, May 1, 2019
Today’s Text: Job 23:1-12
Key Verses: Job 23:10 (ESV): “But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.”
As humans, we all sometimes feel weighed down by real life burdens and crushing heartaches. But through this scripture, and other biblical admonitions, we can find unbelievable comfort in the midst of any trial. Especially, when we remind ourselves, in the words of Job, that He knows the way that we take. We do not serve a God that is not aware of our difficulty, or that is insensitive to the pain we are feeling. He knows, He’s intimately touched, and He cares.
We may not know why God is allowing us to go through all the stuffs, but we can be sure that there is a purpose behind it, which we may not as yet see; or even agree with. But Job points us to a lively hope of God’s utmost goal of allowed trials. Today’s text reminds us that though we go through pain, fire, cruelty, deep waters, terror and all forms of malicious treatment, our God ultimately controls the temperature of any fire He allows us to pass through.
Let Job’s comfort be yours: though you may not see Him, and know all His ways, and the reasons of His dispensations; yet you should let your conduct, your internal desires and designs, the counsels of your heart, and your actions be spurred towards God’s purpose in all the pain.
Quote for the Day: “If and when God is in the bush or in the fire, no matter how intense the scorching heat of the fire, the bush is never consumed.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O Lord, I rest my hope in you. Help me to hold unto your eternal arms when the ground is sagging beneath my feet — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
