Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, May 11, 2020
Today’s Text: 2 Timothy 1:1-14
Key Verse: 2 Timothy 1:7 (ASV): “For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline.”

When Nikita Khrushchev became premier of the Soviet Union, he led massive revolutions against policies and atrocities of Joseph Stalin. Once, a man from an audience interrupted his speech, yelling: "You were Stalin’s colleague, why didn't you stop him?!" Who said that? Khrushchev asked. But a loud silence followed. Fear stopped the man from identifying himself. Then Khrushchev replied quietly, "Now you know why."
During the ordination of Timothy, Apostle Paul, his spiritual mentor, wants him to know that courage is an essential qualification for ministers of the gospel; and that a coward is unworthy of the gospel in trust. As representatives of Christ, we are called to courage and are not to fear them which are in/of the world.
Christians are never given the spirit of fear. Courage or cowardice are products of our temperaments; and as children of God, we have been brought under the gospel’s regenerative power by which the Holy Spirit mends our temperaments. The Spirit we are given restraints or constraints us into self mastery and to become fearless ambassadors of Christ.
Quote for the Day: "Christians are sealed with such incredible Spirit‘s power and grace so that we no longer need to feel unfortified in the face of fear.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, grant me tenacious courage as I go through these tough times. When tempted to cower out, help me to stand tall, in Jesus' name, Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
