Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, March 19, 2020
Today’s Text: Psalm 24:1-6
Key Verse: Psalm 24:4 (KJV): ”He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; Who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully”
We have all been told to wash our hands thoroughly with soaps and hot water to be rid of any possible contact with the ravaging coronavirus. But how do we rid ourselves of the deadly virus of sin? We fear death from COVID-19, but how about the deadly wage of sin? Do we know that our hearts and hands are connected in incredibly deep spiritual ways; and thoughts and deeds are inescapably intertwined?
The author of today’s text wants readers to know that our world, it’s riches and people all belong to God—and our bodies and souls are not ours. But unfortunately we have lifted our hearts in vain pride against that fact, and our hands are therefore unclean before the One who owns all. Amos 6:8 tells how God abhors our pride, detests our fortresses, and delivers up our cities. Jeremiah 51:14 tells how He sends swarm of plagues to punish us. O how it’s high time we go back to Him for a truly thorough cleansing of our hearts and washing of our hands.
Quote for the Day: "To clean our hands spiritually symbolizes repentance.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Father, we confess that our generation has been estranged from Your love; but we now repent and pray Your loving-kindness and great mercy, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
