Cure for Sin

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, March 2, 2023

Today’s Text: 2 Kings 5:1-14

Key Verse: 2 Kings 5:13 (ESV): “But his servants came near and said to him, “My father, it is a great word the prophet has spoken to you; will you not do it? Has he actually said to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?””

I watched a fascinating TV ads in which a very rusty teeth was restored by a single brush of a paste. And they claim to have a cure for rusty teeth. Man tries to claim cure for almost anything; but no one ever made such claim as having cure for sin. At the very best, we try to cover it up or wash off some of its unsightly effects, but we can never clean off guilts from our hearts and conscience.

The Bible tells us that sin is a reproach to any people. In the same way, the leprosy of great, honorable and mighty Naaman, the captain of the host of the king of Syria was a spiritual type of sin. Leprosy is often a spiritual depiction of sin. Sin is a disease and all sinners, who are not washed by the blood of Jesus—regardless of how honorable, refined, powerful, and/or prosperous—are leprous before God with hearts infected/infested by evil. It is a deadly disease (for the wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23) and no man may cure or deliver himself from the depravity, precariousness and power of it.

Just like there was only one hope for Naaman, there is only one hope for all humanity who desire cure for sin and freedom from its consequences. However, when it comes to hope for the cure for sin, dipping in Jordan does nothing. All flesh must come to the Lord Jesus Christ and be washed in the cleansing power of His blood. That is the only cure for the leprosy of sin! Jesus alone bore our sins in His own body and nailed them to the tree. He died for our sins. Coming to the Son of God is like Naaman’s yielding to wash in Jordan. Everyone who comes to finds rest according to Matthew 11:28.

Quote for the Day: “The stain for sin is as thick as the guilt of it; and the penalty for it is ever more severe. Nothing beside the blood of Jesus can cure it." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, Help me to lay down the stain, leprosy and burden of sin. Cure and clean my heart of all debris of sin — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
