Dare to Be a Caleb

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Monday, August 24, 2026

Today’s Text: Numbers 13:1–33; 14:1–24

Key Verse: Numbers 14:24 (KJV) — “But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.”

Today, we have the spuritual posture of Caleb, a man who dared to believe God when fear, unbelief, and negative voices overwhelmed an entire nation, before us. We are blessed with a call to stand strong in faith and courage when others fear great giants. Along with Joshua, Caleb was sent to spy out the Promised Land. He saw the same fortified cities, powerful inhabitants, and giants that the other spies saw. Yet Caleb came back with a different report because he carried a different spirit. Where others saw obstacles too great to overcome, Caleb saw a promise too sure to fail.

As we continue on our Dare series, exploring lives of men and women who stood courageously for God in their generation and left an uncommon godly mark. We looked at Deborah and David, and now Caleb’s life teaches us that courage is not the absence of difficult facts; it is the refusal to allow those facts to become greater than our faith in God. Yes, the land had giants, but it also had God’s promise. Caleb did not deny the reality of the opposition; he simply believed that the God who promised the land was greater than every enemy occupying it.

When the people began to complain and the ten spies spread fear throughout the camp, Caleb stilled the people before Moses and declared, “Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it” (verse 30). His confidence was not rooted in Israel’s military strength, personal ability, or favorable circumstances. It was rooted in the faithfulness of God. Caleb understood that if God had spoken, then He was able to perform what He had promised.

The young man had another spirit. He refused to adopt the language of panic, defeat, and limitation that surrounded him. While others said, “We be not able,” Caleb said, “We are well able.” While others saw themselves as grasshoppers, Caleb saw the greatness of the God who had brought them out of Egypt. The voices around you may be filled with doubt, criticism, and reasons why your assignment cannot succeed. But you must dare to carry another spirit—the spirit of faith, obedience, perseverance, and wholehearted trust in the Lord.

Caleb also followed God fully. He did not follow God only when the journey was easy, popular, or immediately rewarding. Because of Israel’s unbelief, Caleb had to wait forty years before entering the land he believed God for. Yet he did not allow delay to destroy his devotion. He remained faithful through the wilderness, and at eighty-five years old, he was still ready to possess the mountain God had promised him. What God has spoken over your life may require patience, endurance, and steadfast faith, but His promises do not expire because the journey takes longer than expected.

You too must dare to be a Caleb. Dare to believe God’s Word when the majority chooses fear. Dare to guard your spirit against the poison of complaint and unbelief. Dare to speak faith when others speak defeat. Dare to follow God fully, even when obedience costs you comfort, approval, or convenience. Do not permit delayed fulfillment to make you abandon the promise of God. The same God who gave Caleb strength to endure the wilderness and possess Hebron can sustain you until His purpose is fulfilled in your life.

Caleb’s faith did not merely preserve his own future; it left an inheritance for his children and a testimony for generations. One person with another spirit can stand against the current of unbelief and leave an uncommon godly mark. Dare to trust God completely. Dare to stand when others retreat. Dare to possess what God has promised. Your mountain may still be occupied, but the God who promised it is faithful to bring you into it.

Action Steps: Today, identify an area where fear, delay, or negative reports have weakened your confidence in God’s promise. Bring it before the Lord in prayer, and ask Him to give you Caleb’s spirit of faith and wholehearted obedience. Reflect on a promise, instruction, or assignment God has placed in your heart, and refuse to let the opinions of others silence your faith. Guard your words today; choose to speak hope, truth, and confidence in God rather than complaint or defeat. Take one obedient step toward the “mountain” God has placed before you, trusting Him to give you strength for the journey and victory in His time.

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Caleb, who believed Your Word and followed You fully when others chose fear and unbelief. Forgive me for the times I have allowed negative reports, delays, and the opinions of others to weaken my confidence in You. Give me another spirit—a spirit of faith, courage, obedience, and perseverance. Help me to remember that Your promises are greater than every obstacle before me. Teach me to follow You wholeheartedly in every season, whether the path is easy or difficult. Strengthen me to wait faithfully, speak boldly, and possess every promise You have ordained for my life. Use my steadfast faith to bring glory to Your name and encouragement to those around me. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
