Dare to Be a Tychicus
Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Monday, November 2, 2026
Today's Text: Ephesians 6:21-22 and Colossians 4:7-8.
Key Verse: Colossians 4:7 (NIV) — "Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord."

We can be grateful for Paul for revealing a quiet but dependable brother to us, named Tychicus. He was not an apostle with a large name, but he was with a large heart, a native of Asia who joined Paul on dangerous missionary journeys. When Paul was in chains in Rome, he needed someone he could trust with more than parchment. Tychicus became his trusted messenger and courier. He safely carried and delivered letters that now form our New Testament, such as Ephesians and Colossians, through Roman roads which are known to be full of risks. He carried the Word when carrying it could cost his life. While others wanted a pulpit, Tychicus was willing to be a postman for the gospel. Dare to be Tychicus, who was faithful with another man's message.
Tychicus teaches us that a life of faithful service is never wasted. Paul did not describe him as famous or gifted, but as beloved brother, faithful minister, and fellowservant in the Lord. That is high praise from a man who saw many come and go. Beloved speaks of character, faithful speaks of consistency, minister speaks of service, fellowservant speaks of humility. He remained loyal when Paul was no longer popular but was a prisoner. Today, many desire visibility without reliability, titles without trustworthiness, and influence without loyalty. Tychicus reminds us that God needs carriers, not just cardinals. He who is faithful in delivering another man's letter will be trusted with his own legacy. Never despise your God-given assignment whatever it is. Dare to be Tychicus!
Tychicus also teaches us to bring more than text; he brought reassurance and encouragement. Paul said, I have sent him unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts. He was not a DHL service; he was a pastor with parchment. He could explain what Paul meant, how Paul was faring, and why the churches should not lose heart because their father in the faith was in chains. Distance can make people discouraged, and silence can make them suspect the worst. Tychicus bridged that gap with personal presence. Like him, we must learn to comfort hearts, not just inform minds. Do not just forward a message; embody encouragement when you deliver it. Keep showing up, comforting, and strengthening those who wait for news. Dare to be Tychicus, who comforted hearts while he carried letters!
This man did not just carry letters; he carried leadership. Paul relied on him for interim leadership and relief when transitions were needed. To Titus in Crete, Paul wrote, when I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me. To Timothy in Ephesus, Paul said, and Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus. He was the man Paul sent when he needed to relieve a leader, stabilize a church, and hold the fort without seeking the spotlight. He could step in and step aside without drama. That is rare maturity. He understood that serving Christ sometimes means going where you are sent, not where you want to shine. You do not need a permanent title to have a permanent impact. Your willingness to relieve others is part of your witness. Tychicus reminds us that faithful availability is greater than showy ability. Dare to be Tychicus, whose reliability made him Paul's go-to man! Be available, be dependable, and be ready to go.
Tychicus' story reminds us that true greatness is measured by faithfulness, not fame. Though Scripture records only a few mentions of him, his footprints are on half the New Testament because he delivered it. He lived to reveal Christ and to serve Paul, not himself. His legacy was built through trust, delivery, encouragement, and interim help. He did not seek to become the center of attention; he pointed people to the message and to the Master. One trip with a letter seems small, but a lifetime of faithful errands builds a lasting reputation. Never underestimate the impact of a consistent life of quiet dependability. May we be remembered not merely for what we wrote, but for what we carried faithfully; not merely for how loud we spoke, but for how reliably we served. Dare to be Tychicus, whose faithful steps still deliver hope today! May our lives likewise be remembered for our trustworthiness and our encouragement of others. Dare to be Tychicus, whose dependability still speaks!
Action Steps: Spend time today being faithful in a small assignment. Identify a message, task, or person God wants you to carry encouragement to, and deliver it with your presence, not just your words. Ask God for grace to be a beloved brother, faithful minister, and fellowservant in your church and workplace. Check on someone who is waiting for news and comfort their heart. Never consider yourself too small to be trusted with God's message. Carry faithfully, comfort lovingly, and serve willingly!
Quote for the Day: "A life that is willing to carry another man's message faithfully will end up carrying God's reputation permanently; faithful gospel carriers become unforgettably carried by God." — Simon Olatunji (#quotablequotes)
Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for Tychicus' exemplary life of faithful service and dependable friendship. Help me remain trustworthy in little things, encouraging in my presence, and willing to go where I am sent. Deliver me from the desire for applause and the temptation to be unreliable. Let my life carry Your Word and comfort Your people. May my faithfulness leave a lasting legacy for Your glory. In Jesus' most glorious name. Amen.
