Dare to Be an Abraham

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Sunday, September 7, 2026

Today’s Text: Genesis 12:1–9

Key Verse: Genesis 18:19 (KJV) — “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.”

Abraham led a life that points timeless generations to obedient faith, courageous separation, patient waiting, sacrificial surrender, and generational influence. He stood at the beginning of a great covenant journey, coming from and surrounded by a world that did not know the true God. Yet when the Lord called him to leave his country, kindred, and father’s house, he obeyed without knowing every detail of the destination. He teaches us that faith often begins where certainty ends. God said, “Get thee out,” and Abraham went. He did not demand a complete map before taking the first step.

He trusted the One who called him more than he trusted the familiar place he was leaving. Dare to be an Abraham: dare to obey God when the journey is unfamiliar, dare to leave behind what can hinder your calling, and dare to follow divine direction even when you cannot yet see the full promise. Wherever Abraham went, he built an altar and called upon the name of the Lord. His faith was not merely a private conviction; it was a public testimony. In a land filled with false worship, Abraham marked his journey with places of consecration.

His altars declared that his success, protection, provision, and future came from God. He carried the presence of worship into every place where the Lord led him. He also teaches us to walk with God through seasons of delay. The Lord promised to make him a great nation, but the fulfillment did not come according to Abraham’s timetable. He had to wait through years of uncertainty, human limitation, and unanswered questions. Yet God remained faithful to His covenant. The promise was not cancelled by delay, and the waiting season was not wasted.

Abraham teqches us that God forms a man into a father of faith before He makes him father of nations. His faith was tested on Mount Moriah when God commanded him to offer Isaac, the son of promise. Abraham’s obedience revealed that he loved the Giver more than the gift. He trusted that God was able to preserve His promise even when the command seemed impossible to understand. At the critical moment, what he placed on the altar was returned to him. God is still looking for men and women who will walk by faith, build altars of devotion, raise godly households, intercede for their generation, and obey Him at great personal cost. He is calling you to leave what He has asked you to leave, pursue what He has commanded you to pursue, and trust Him with what He has promised.

Action Steps: Obey God in the next instruction He has given you, even when the entire journey is not yet clear. Build a consistent altar of prayer, worship, and devotion in your home. Refuse to allow delay to weaken your faith in God’s promises. Surrender every gift, relationship, ambition, and future plan to the Lord. Pray boldly for your household and your generation. Live in such a way that those who follow you will know the way of the Lord.

Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Abraham, who trusted You when You called him into the unknown. Teach me to obey Your voice, to walk by faith, and to wait patiently for the fulfillment of Your promises. Help me to build an altar of worship wherever You lead me and to surrender every blessing back to You. Make me a faithful example to my household, a bold intercessor for my generation, and a vessel through whom Your covenant purposes can be fulfilled. Give me grace to love You more than every gift You place in my hands. Let my faith, obedience, and testimony point others to Your glory — in Jesus’ most glorious name. Amen.
