Dare to Be John the Beloved
Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Friday, November 6, 2026
Today's Text: 1 John 4:7-12; John 19:25-27
Key Verse: 1 John 4:8 (KJV) — "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."

We can be grateful for John, the Apostle, for revealing a life transformed by the love of God. He was John, son of Zebedee, a fisherman from Galilee, called with his brother James to follow Jesus. Early in his walk, Jesus nicknamed them Sons of Thunder because of their fiery temper and ambition. They once asked to call down fire from heaven on a Samaritan village that rejected Jesus, and they selfishly sought places of honor at His right and left hand. While others saw a hot-tempered young man, Jesus saw an apostle of love in the making. His story teaches us that true faith moves us from selfish ambition and anger into deep humility, unwavering loyalty, and active love. Dare to be John, who was transformed by love!
John teaches us that a life devoted to God is never wasted. Though his temper could have destroyed him, he allowed Jesus to reshape his character over time. Jesus rebuked his spirit and taught him that His kingdom is built on mercy and sacrifice, not power and vengeance. He remained faithful when nobody was applauding him. Today, many desire influence without intimacy, power without patience, and honor without humility. John reminds us that a life of public impact must be rooted in private transformation. Never despise your hidden seasons of pruning; God sees your faithfulness. Dare to be John!
John also teaches us to stay loyal when it is difficult. When fear caused most of the other disciples to scatter during Jesus' arrest and crucifixion, John stood faithfully by the cross. Jesus entrusted His mother, Mary, into John's care right there at Calvary. Loyalty can make some people run, but it can make others remain. Never allow the length of your trial to destroy the strength of your loyalty. God's call may lead you to painful places, but your responsibility is to remain close to Him. Do not become so discouraged by what has not happened that you become blind to what God is doing. Like John, we must remain ready to stand at the cross. Keep loving, trusting, and serving. Dare to be John, who stayed when others left!
This beloved disciple did not keep his revelation to himself. In his Gospel, he humbly refers to himself not by name, but as the disciple whom Jesus loved. In his later letters, his message is simple yet profound: God is love, and those who know God must love one another in action and truth. His encounter became a testimony, and his love became a message of hope. Though advanced in years, he remained useful in God's hands. He understood that discovering Christ carries the responsibility of making Him known. You do not need a grand platform to proclaim a great Savior. Your family, congregation, workplace, and community are places where your love can inspire hope. Do not allow your experiences of God's goodness to remain unspoken when others need encouragement. John reminds us that genuine encounters with Christ should produce lives that point others to Him. Dare to be John, whose encounter became a message of love to others! Share your testimony, love in action, and point others to Christ. Dare to be John, whose love became a witness!
John's story reminds us that true greatness is measured by faithfulness, not fame. Though he was once a Son of Thunder, his example continues to inspire generations. He lived to reveal Christ, not himself. His legacy was built through transformation, loyalty, abiding, and love. He did not seek to become the center of attention; he pointed people to Jesus, the Son of God. One day or moment of love is great, but a lifetime of abiding builds a lasting testimony. Never underestimate the impact of a consistent life of faithfulness. May we be remembered not merely for what we accumulated, but for the Christ we revealed; not merely for how long we lived, but for how faithfully we loved. Dare to be John, whose life of love still speaks today! May our lives likewise be remembered for our devotion to God and our impact on others. Dare to be John, whose faithfulness still speaks!
Action Steps: Spend time in prayer and worship today. Identify an area where anger, ambition, or selfishness still rules you, and surrender it to Jesus. Ask for a heart of love and loyalty, then show love in action to someone who needs encouragement. Never consider yourself too flawed, too fiery, or too insignificant to be transformed by God. Abide in love, stay loyal, and love others boldly!
Quote for the Day: "A life transformed by love is never wasted; when thunder becomes tenderness, loyalty becomes worship, and abiding becomes loving, a fiery heart becomes a lasting witness." — Simon Olatunji (#quotablequotes)
Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for John's exemplary life of transformation, loyalty, and love. Help me move from anger to humility, from ambition to service, and from fear to faithfulness. Deliver me from selfishness and vengeance. Let my life reveal Jesus and inspire others to love You. May my devotion leave a lasting legacy for Your glory. In Jesus' most glorious name. Amen.
