Dare to Be Mary (Mother of Jesus)
Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Saturday, October 24, 2026
Today's Text: Luke 1:26–38
Key Verse: Luke 1:38 (KJV) — “And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.”

In Nazareth, there was a godly virgin girl who had a visitation that would change the course of her life and entire world. She was espoused to Joseph, but before their marriage was consummated, the angel Gabriel announced that she would conceive and bring forth a Son, and call His name Jesus, the Son of the Highest, whose kingdom would never end. Troubled, she asked how this could happen. The answer rested on divine power: the Holy Ghost would overshadow her, “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Mary responded with surrender: “Be it unto me according to thy word.” Dare to be this godly woman od faith who would not merely hear God’s Word, but who is prepared to yield to it? Dare to be Mary.
Mary’s humility appeared in how she identified herself: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord.” Called to bear the Savior, she saw herself first as God’s servant. Her song magnified the Lord, not her own importance: “My spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.” Never let the greatness of your assignment overshadow the lordship of the One who gave it. Your usefulness is not measured by recognition or position. Dare to be Mary: receive grace without claiming the glory. Never measure your usefulness by the prominence of your seat, the recognition of your name, or the visibility of your service. A surrendered heart matters more than an impressive position. Dare to be Mary: humble enough to receive grace without turning it into personal glory.
Her obedience did not exclude questions; it submitted them to God’s answer. Mary received no detailed account of everything ahead, yet she yielded. There is a difference between seeking understanding and making understanding a condition of obedience. Do not let what you cannot explain excuse you from what God has clearly required. Dare to be Mary: obey His Word without demanding control of the future. Mary trusted God’s power, not her own ability. The miracle would be His work, not her achievement. Her calling to bear Jesus was unique, but her humility, obedience, and trust remain examples for us. Nor did surrender guarantee ease: the mother who welcomed the promise later stood beside her Son’s cross. Dare to be Mary: faithful not only when the promise sounds glorious, but when obedience becomes painful.
Mary also “kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.” Some truths must be treasured while their meaning unfolds. In a hurried world, make room to receive, obey, and ponder God’s Word. Bring more than your presence to worship; bring a listening heart and a yielded will. Do not admire a message you have no intention of obeying. Dare to be Mary: “Be it unto me according to thy word.” Let the Word you hear shape the life you live. Dare to be Mary: the servant who says, Here I am; the believer who says, I trust You, Lord; and the surrendered soul who says, Be it unto me according to thy word.
Action Steps: Take ten quiet minutes to identify one area where you resist God’s revealed will. Write Mary’s response beneath it, then take one practical step: apologize, fulfill a responsibility, serve quietly, or turn from sin. Put one truth from today’s worship into practice, and ponder it before the day ends. Choose humility over prominence, obedience over convenience, and trust over control.
Quote for the Day: “A surrendered heart does not need to know every turn in the road; it needs to trust the God whose word has called it forward.” — (Simon Olatunji #quotablequotes)
Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, forgive me for hearing Your Word without yielding to it. Deliver me from pride, excuses, and the need to understand everything before I obey. Like Mary, I say, “Behold Your servant; be it unto me according to Your word.” Open my ears, humble my heart, and strengthen me by Your Spirit. Keep me willing when obedience is inconvenient and faithful when the road is painful. May my life magnify You and honor Your Son—in Jesus’ most glorious name. Amen.
