Today’s Text: Ephesians 5:15-21
Key Verse: Ephesians 5:15 (KJV): “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.”
It is very difficult to change. Of course, people want to change; but it’s just that change is something hard to do. You can know this just by looking around you: you would find people who are struggling like yourself, who are dissatisfied with something in their lives but lacking the willpower to just change it—ranging from realities like weight, hairstyle, and jobs to developing a better lifestyle or attitude; or spending more quality time with family. Or, it may be spiritual matters like knowing and doing the will of God, and spending more quality time with Him.
Today’s key verse offers us an important first step toward meaningful change in life: Walk circumspectly. This is not a word we use often, so it can be hard to grasp. But it means: be deliberate. Don’t meander. Quit drifting around. Be deliberate about giving up aimless walk through life. Be careful about not being careless. Walk with purpose. The Greek word used is an accounting term referring to precision and careful counting. Therefore, I t’s all about giving careful thoughts to how we live. Making sure that we live and walk with precise and calculated intentions.
The point is simple: we already know that we live in a dark world either you’re looking at it physically or spiritually. And, no one walks aimlessly in the dark. Hence, the charge here is to pay attention and stay focused on whatever we’re doing. To live intentionally. To change things for the better. Especially as it relates to walking as children of light. So, pause a bit and ask yourself: Am I meandering around, or deliberate in my choices? Am I walking with wisdom as a child of the light, or am I risking a fall in the dark?
Quote for the Day: “God wants to help us change our lives in incredible ways! When we allow him and yield to Him, the Holy Spirit helps us chart the paths of new direction and the changes we need.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, change me, and give me the courage to live clean in this untoward age. Help me to overcome my status quo’s. Help me to turn to You for change in behavior, in spiritual thirst and hunger, my walk of faith-first, and in my overall life as a believer — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
