Diligent Search for God

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, January 6, 2022

Today’s Text: Hebrews 11:4-7

Key Verse: Hebrews 11:6 (KJV): “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Through Paul, the systematizer of the Christian gospel, God tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen. And, through the same apostle, God let’s us know that this evidence is not just a substance, but it is a way of life. It must be exemplified. For by faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of the things which are visible. Therefore, faith is a lifestyle of unwavering trust in the Lord. Without it, we cannot please God. And the reason is clear: no one comes to God except s/he believes that He is. No way to hug non-existence. No way! Only insanity could make a person to embrace the wind. We only diligently seek God because we are confident that He is—an idea deeper than existence: for existence is limited with time and space; but God is not in anyway limited at all.

He rewards those who seek Him in this way with righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. He rewards them with eternal life. Religion does not get anyone to this point. No! What does is that evidential seed of faith that provoke a diligent search for God. That’s where our rewarded is. He has neither said to Jacob’s descendants nor to us, “Seek me in vain.” We always seek mundane things with deep diligence. Sometimes we make it through, and sometimes we make no gain. We seek this way and that, in every conceivably hopeful direction, and with every possible desire for gain. But sometimes we seek in vain. Even a few things that seem to be gain do not turn out to our advantage. But we have it entirely different when we diligently go to any length to find God and obey His word. We are sure to reap good reward.

Quote for the Day: “Man’s need for God is deep and desperate. His search for God must be fervent and diligent” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I come to You in desperate need for Your help, Hold

My hands and point me to the way I should follow. Reward my diligent search for you. For You are my God and my trust is in You — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D
