Don’t Worry about Anything

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, February 20, 2023

Today’s Text: Philippians 4:1-9

Key Verse: Philippians 4:6 (NLT): “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”

When a person worries, he focuses his energy on 40% of things that will never happen; 30% of things that has happened and cannot be changed; 12% of false criticism from others; 10% about his health that gets worse while he worries; and 8% about the real issues that would be faced with or without his worries. I came across this data in an hotel room in Chiang Mai Thailand in the Summer of 2016 and cannot verify statistic; but it really looks appealing to reason. Do we not truly worry on things that will never happen? Or, don’t we lose our sleep on things we can’t change?

Beloved, in almost an exact repetition of our Lord’s command to “Take no thought,” Apostle Paul admonishes us not to worry about anything. While the facts of life’s uncertainties remain, we are being reminded here of Christ’s command to let go worries and anxiety. Of course, there will always be things in life that will stress us, and cause our hearts to fear. But Jesus promises us His peace that transcends all understanding, which will guard our heart and mind in Him.

That is why we bring all anxieties to God in prayer and leave them in God’s hands. And the more we pray, the less our fears. The more we give thanks to God for the things we have received the more at home we become with hopes for better things to come. That is the reason to “pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” It is our ground of encouragement from past victories, an anticipation for future help, and a direct relief from pressing anxiety. Care gives us a bad memory; but a grateful reflection of the past will help allay anxieties about the future.

Quote for the Day: “Care gives us a bad memory; but gratitude reflects on past victories." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, it is such a blessing to know that I do not have to be anxious about anything! Please, Lord, let me always find strength in the fact that I can come to You and tell You about everything. Thank You for who You are and what You are doing in our lives — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
