Far Above Rubies

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, May 4, 2022

Today Text: Proverbs 31:10-27

Key Verse: Proverbs 31:10 (NIV): “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.”

We are just a few days to this year’s Mother’s Day program: a celebration earmarked to honor motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of godly mothers in our lives and society. But looking around, we have clearly evidence that we are in a culture in which biblical womanhood is feared lost or debased —an age when women’s hearts are embattled, their worth undermined, biblical roles redefined, and, at large, the society looks down on modesty and character. There is yet a remnant of who exemplify the godly power of noble character—the uncommon few who understand God’s purpose for womanhood; whose lives attest to the honorable position of a truly spiritual, powerful, influential and affectionate woman of God.

This meditation is a call for enlistment in the uncommon paths of godly womanhood. The author’s description is an attestation to the strength, not weakness, of the woman of industry that makes and keeps the home; and an indictment on the ones who pulls theirs down. Of course, the society freaks out on true strength: it thinks she is subservient, but no, she exercises the power of submission. You can look at the children she raises. She reaps the fruits of following the examples of godly biblical women who know the truth, stand up for purity, and pursue the will of God. This is the biblical image and commendation of a good woman. She is strong, supportive, genuine and faithful.

Prayer: Dear Lord, pour forth Your grace upon our women, please fill them with your grace so that they may be restored and renewed in their roles. Help them to remember that they do not have to do this alone—that you are with them to help, strengthen and guide them — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
