Follow Me

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Friday, December 19, 2025

Today’s Text: Matthew 4:18–22 (NIV)

Key Verse: Matthew 4:19 (NIV): “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

Following Jesus means dropping your nets at His call, leaving the familiar for the divine adventure He invites you into. It is the bold surrender of self-directed plans, ambitions, and securities, exchanging them for His path, His purpose, and His presence. True following is not a one-time decision but a daily rhythm of obedience—walking where He leads, even when the road twists through uncertainty or sacrifice.

To follow Him is to prioritize His voice above all others, silencing the clamor of culture, comfort, and convenience. Jesus calls us from the shores of ordinary life into extraordinary mission, promising transformation as we trail behind Him. It demands counting the cost—family ties, livelihoods, reputations—yet offers infinite reward in knowing Him more deeply. Followers don't dictate the journey; they trust the Guide who never fails.

This invitation is not a vague suggestion but a life-altering command, freeing us from lesser masters and anchoring us in eternal allegiance. Following keeps us close to His heart, learning His ways in real-time through trials, miracles, and quiet moments. It confesses, “Lord, I am prone to stray.” It requests, “Lead me closer.” It declares, “I will go where You go.” The same Jesus who calls supplies the power to follow through every step.

Following Him also aligns us with heaven's redemptive mission. Those who drop their nets become fishers of people, extending His kingdom in word and deed. Obedience today forges character for tomorrow's assignments, legacy, and glory, turning surrendered steps into ripples of eternal influence. True followers don't just trail Jesus; they carry His light to a shadowed world, embodying His radical love and unyielding call.

Action Steps: Identify one "net" you're gripping too tightly— a habit, relationship, fear, or ambition. Ask God for courage to drop it today, taking one obedient step toward Jesus' voice. Refuse to be swayed by what others chase; let His call alone direct your path. Encourage another believer wrestling with surrender, reminding them that following leads to fruitfulness.

Quote for the Day: “Following Jesus turns reluctant steps into resurrection power.” (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Lord Jesus, teach me to follow You without hesitation. Thank You for calling me from my nets into Your purpose, Your presence, and Your power. I bring my attachments, doubts, and distractions before You today. Strengthen my surrender, clarify Your voice, and help me to walk in Your steps every day. Let my life echo Your call, so that when You look upon my obedience, You will find me steadfast. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
