Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, October 13, 2022
Today’s Text: Matthew 4:12-22
Key Verse: Matthew 4:19 (NASB): “And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.””
Saul was looking for his father’s lost donkeys when God anointed him king. Gideon was in a desperate pursuit of survival for his father’s house when the angel spotted him for a divine assignment. Moses was tending the sheep of Jethro, his father in-law when God called him from the burning bush. David was keeping his father’s flock, when God gave him the kingdom. Isaiah was mourning king Uzziah’s death when he saw the Lord sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple. The shepherds were feeding their flocks when they received information from angels and hosts of heaven. The disciples were busy throwing their empty nets when Jesus said to them: “come, follow me, and I will make you...”
God always goes for, and gets the best. He calls His men to offices of dignity and usefulness from their exploits and industry. There are times when God calls upon us, and we are fearful of our current situations, or even of what the future holds. But we must remember that fear is a tool that satan uses to attack our faith in God, and to stop the blessings which our Heavenly Father has in stock for us. We must learn what fear is anyway. It is the opposite of faith! When God calls and makes His men, those who yield and follow Him are never losers. They need not spend all their lives and efforts trying to find peace. You cannot follow the Master and end up frustrated and anxious. Even when it is hard to yield God’s call, or know where to begin, there is a blessed assurance that God makes us into His glorious purpose.
Quote for the Day: “Fear always stops us from following Jesus; but whoever hears the voice of faith can never be disappointed.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please clear my mind from fear so I may follow you with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind, and all my strength. Show me the treasures of your wisdom, let me follow You as your true disciple — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
