Freed by God’s Truth

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, April 26, 2023

Today’s Text: John 8:31-59

Key Verses: (John 8:32, NKJV): "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

We live in an age so plagued with so much deceit and falsehood that truth is now so hard to tell. Lies are so ravaging and pervasive and have fast eaten deep into the very fabric of our conscience, character, and core values. Living by the truth is almost synonymous with deliberately setting yourself up upon the thorny sides of life. You'd face consequences like rejection, conspiracies, and incarcerations.

But regardless, God's truth abides still, and the Church remains its custodian, and the Bible remains God's provision to the opening up of the door to His truth. And it is that truth that changes our lives. We cannot know God's truth and remain the same. That is why Psalm 19:7-14 says: "The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes." No one can believe the reality of Jesus' birth, death, and resurrection and have no change in the way they live.

How much truth of God claimed my dear reader today has changed your life? What philosophies or worldviews have you held in the past that have colored your concept of truth? Take a second look at them and try them on God's word of truth and you will find each of them critically self-defeating in nature.

Quote for the Day: “Truth and integrity are correlative. Its light dispels the darkness in which lies and evil thrive. When the bondage of lies comes under the test of truth, it losses its power lets its captives go free.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank You for Your truth. I pray that I may know Your truth indeed and that I experience the freedom it brings in my life, for my family and in my home — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
