Today’s Text: Proverbs 22:1-6
Key Verse: Proverbs 22:1 (ESV): “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.”

It is becoming increasingly apparent that name is no longer important and valuable to people of this generation! We treasure success, sales growth, possessions, achievements, stock value and dividends. We adore wealth and seek fame and gain; but we fail to learn from history that it is not the things we own or make that matter like our names that go ahead of those things. If you look in the Word of God, or in the history of humanity, you will find out that the most respected people are not those known for wealth, but people marked by genuine pursuit of virtues and integrity.
We can make a list of great men and women who have written their names on the sand of times, and find none of them to be perfect. Rather, we’d find them to simply be men and women who put their reputation ahead of material things while living within cultures that lift up ‘silver and gold’ above building and protecting one’s name.
Friends, it is so easy to sacrifice our reputation on the altar of earthy fame, riches and power. But if we take a careful look at today’s verse, we have no doubt about something to be rather chosen — a good name. Our life is always a result of the choices we make. This makes it important for us to be on guard about our daily choices. Any decision or action that does not strengthen our reputation; but rather hurt it should be eschewed. This will earn us favor in the sight of men, and God’s loving favor, above all things.
Quote for the Day: “Working hard is good, working smart is even better; but none of them guarantees a good name like living a content and simple lifestyle." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to be more careful to pursue the right things in the course of my life. Teach me the wisdom to guard my reputation to the glory of your own name in my life, in Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
