Go in the Strength You Have (Part Five)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, May 16, 2021

Today’s Text: Judges 6:11-24

Key Verse: Judges 6:14 (HCSB) — “The LORD turned to him and said, "Go in the strength you have and deliver Israel from the power of Midian. Am I not sending you?"

Do you feel weak like Gideon? Well, may be before this very moment. But having come to this moment of devotion; or having presented yourself before God, you are no longer to remain or continue in weakness. When a man comes to, or is in the presence of the Lord, weakness melts into valor and might. When the Lord is with us we can do all things. We are irresistible. We are more than conquerors. The truth is: God is always with us, and He is our source of might. He looks favorably upon us, and we can go in that might alone. For His look is the look of grace. When His face shines upon a person, it imparts strength to his innermost being. And though the wicked bend their bows; and set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at us; we are confident that no one can say to us: flee like a bird to your mountain.

Our surest source of grace and strength is in the word of God. Gideon has no ground or claim of might. His background, experience and circumstances rob him of any hope of valor; but when the Lord's promise meets a man in the lowest incapacitation, it takes him to the highest point of enablement. Gideon was to wage war based on the promise that the Lord is with him, and shall be with him. That is the the might he has which the angel remark. That is what the angel meant by “this thy might.” Other things that we look at and trust are no might at all. This is thy might: God is with you. And you can now overcome all the forces that come against you.

The Church’s strength — be it in the Great Commission, or in our struggle against wicked forces of evil, or against the flesh — is in the command of the Lord. When the Lord commissions, He also promises; and when He promises, He fulfills. Our surest warrant of strength is in the words “Go ye therefore as make disciples of all nations.” We can all go in that might. Like Gideon and like the apostles, we have been sent by the One who has all authority in heaven and on earth. We have been given a name that is above all name; which when we walk in His will, no force on earth can resist us. Therefore, let us rise up, upon this day and upon this assurance, and go into all places of humanity, by the might of God who sent us.

Quote for the Day: “Going by God’s commission is going by surest unstoppable might. No force on earth can resist us, prevent the promise or hinder the commission." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Gracious God, I ask that Your pathway will become manifest in my life. Help me to walk in the paths that You have laid out for me and give me your strength, in Jesus' name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
