God Cannot Be Fooled

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, April 1, 2022

Today’s Text: Galatians 6:6-10

Key Verse: Galatians 6:7 (CEV): “You cannot fool God, so don't make a fool of yourself! You will harvest what you plant.”

Throughout the world, today has been regarded as April Fools Day because people try different kinds of social, moral, religious, political, and economic pranks on others. They conjure up different things that are neither consistent with truth nor matching with reality. Indeed, it has been an opportunity for some to take living a lie to the next level. It is sad that, somehow, we often try to play some pranks on God as well. During the days of St. Pail, the Galatians appear to have been so fooled into some errors that the apostle had to address them as foolish (3:1). In today’s text, he warns them to stay clear of any tendency to play any prank on God. Such conduct will only tell against them because God cannot be fooled. He (God) attends our every action and inaction with corresponding rewards.

We may not verbalize a lie to God, but what about all the pranks in our worship, and lifestyles? We must remember how Cain tried to fool God by a wrong offering; but ended up with a curse instead of a blessing. We must not forget Ananias and his wife Sapphira, who, according to the Acts of the Apostles played a successful pranks in human terms until God showed up. These few familiar illustrations are a reminder and a caution consistent with the message of St. Paul to believers in Galatia. No man can fool God. Pastors may be fooled by a lie. Members may be mocked with the games we play. Hypocrisy may be mistaken as deep religiosity or spirituality by us but the red rug will soon be pulled out from under it and the veils taken away, then you shall know that you are really the fooled, not God. For nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:1).

Quote for the Day: “It is time Christians learn that hypocrisy is worse than darkness. It is an attempt to play games with the God that cannot be mocked or fooled.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you fir this reminder that you know all things. In this née month and always, please help us to tremble at your word — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
