Today’s Text: Joel 2:18-24
Key Verse: Joel 2:21 (ESV): “Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice, for the Lord has done great things!”

So, the first Sunday of the Great Year is here to the glory of God; and I can boldly say it without reservation that God’s mighty hand will lead us through the year, I’m Jesus name. The text before us today presents the mind of God for His children in difficult times just as we are. The prophet’s eyes and minds were flooded with deep imageries that he had no choice than to use such highly figurative expression to capture the very soul of Judah’s situation. The prophet has been sent to let them know that God’s mercies is sure over His people; that He is awaking a new joy for His children.
At the time this oracle was sent, Israel was surrounded by animate and inanimate causes for alarm. And of course as humans, undesirable experiences have power to excite alarm in us. However, God sends this word early to assure His people that He is always steps ahead in every situation. He is already working to silence the voices of their fear. And this prophetic oracle was sent to assure them that all will be well. Therefore, as we all step into the new year; especially when there appears to be no fast magic to make things different—we are reminded that there is no true remedy for fear and anxiety except the assurance of Divine intervention. As with Israel, God is sweeping anything that represents the locusts away. He is removing all the scourges of yesteryears. He shall indeed give us a great year. Our land shall resume its garb of fertility and deliver all its prophetic promises. So, calm! The God we serve is a God of great things. He is occasioning an uncommon season of joy to take the place of mourning, distress, and alarm.
Quote for the Day: “The key to unlocking earth’s superabundance is turning to God. When the human soul is in tune with divine purpose, everything else aligns in goodness.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for Your mindfulness of us. I believe in Your word and I’m ready for Your great and mighty blessings — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
