Today’s Text: Esther 4:12-17
Key Verse: Esther 4:14 (ESV): "For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
While we all maintain clear claims to God’s proven “omnipresence” and “omnipotence,” we still sometimes overlook His desire and ability to intervene in our lives—whether the intervention is in a believer's personal experience or on a general grand scale that affects both believers and unbelievers. But history provides numerous descriptions of major events involving God’s unsuspected intervention. It's super easy to see God in events such as the Exodus and Joshua’s conquest of Jericho: when we are provided enough circumstantial evidence to make us wonder and yet have no doubt; but what happens when God is not mentioned or perceived, such as in the entire Book of Esther, yet every event is woven together by the invissible fingers of God and His veiled presence in His people's lives.
Whe you see a clear working hand of God and all you can comfess is, “Who knows? Perhaps you have come to royal dignity for such a time as this?!” And, you can't even dare to name God! Definitely, you have not come thus far, or to that position by luck, or fate, or by your own wiles, but by the will and power of an unseen actor. O, that we can see the divine handwriting on the wall everywhere. Like Esther, we all come to honor by the “good hand of God,” as Ezra and Nehemiah might have said (Ezra 8:18, Nehemiah 2:18).
This challenges us to ponder how God might be at work in ways we don’t recognize. When a company or the government eliminates a cap that prevents you and you find yourself in a place they've said you cant ever near; in a providential coincidences, and you meet the right person at the right time, or experiencing a series of unlikely events that lead to a positive outcome; you recover from an illness or injury without medical explanation; escape harm or danger without logical explanation; you receive unexpected ideas or solutions to problems; see specific prayers answered in unexpected ways; feel led or directed towards a particular path or decision without clear reasoning; receive unexpected financial or material blessings; experience peace and consolation during difficult circumstances; presented with chances or openings that seem beyond your own abilities; or experience a deep sense of contentment and happiness despite external circumstances. Is God at work or these are chances? O please remember, and be grateful that God's invisible hands are always at work, even when we don't see or understand them. Trust in His goodness and sovereignty!
Quote for the Day: "Life is a canvas, painted with the colors of God's Masterful artistic finger, weaving our choices for/and into His glorious purpose. Every brushstroke represents His providence, every hue His love, and every masterpiece a testament to invisible hand of grace." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Lord, Savior and Redeemer, please open my eyes to see Your hand in every moment, every encounter, and every circumstance. Help me to recognize Your presence and guidance in all things, big and small. May I trust in Your sovereignty and goodness, and find joy and peace in Your loving care — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
