Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, December 30, 2021

Today’s Text: Judges 7: 1-8

Key Verse: Judges 7:2 (ESV): “The Lord said to Gideon, “The people with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.”

So, does anyone think that their being alive to see the end of 2021, or any record of success in their life a determination of their own ability rather than God's power? Before we attempt to provide an answer, please let us take a look at Gideon’s story. At least we may learn a lesson or two. Our faith May have be under trial like Gideon’s. Each day we go through tough and difficult times that are not quite different from the severe trial that Gideon found himself and the rest of Israel under the Midianites. In many way, we feel lonely fearful and besieged, not by footed soldiers like Gideon; but by different psychological, emotional, political, economic and spiritual enemies.

O friends, if Gideon ever needed, we even need Him more today. Our physical strength or army amount to nothing compared to those ready to unleash anger upon us. That is why, we must not trust in our physical strength. Whereas Gideon needs more men, God said to him, "You have too many people for Me to hand the Midianites over to you.” As we face the turn of the year, we need the strength, power, grace, light, help and deliverance of the Lord. We cannot and must not face the unclear future with our strength and understanding. Self help cannot face what surrounds this season. Human strength will fail us and falter. Gideon trimmed the number down from 32,000 men to 10,000, but God said that was still too much men. The more we recognized our human weakness the more He exalts His own strength in us.

Quote for the Day: “The more men overlook God, the more their spiritual enemies overshadow them.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me the confidence and faith to quit my strength and seek yours. Help me to follow your plan as I face the years ahead — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
