God’s “Let” Diary (Part 111) — Let the Children First Be Filled

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, October 6, 2020

Today’s Text: Mark 7:24-30

Key Verses: Mark 7:27 (KJV) — “But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.

We on a journey through all the “lets” in the Bible otherwise today’s devotional would have been titled “beware of offense!” Most people would not act like this Syrophoenician woman. We like to protect and defend what we think of ourselves against what others think or say about us. Even if what was thought or said does not matter or affect a thing. Our human pride and ego blind us a lot, and deprive us of so much untold blessings. Whatever it was, what Jesus said to this woman was a rebuff. It was a real trial of her faith. Ordinarily and naturally, she would call forth her inmost natural nature; call the bluff of Him and fight to defend her dignity. But taking offense will rob her if much more than the miracle she seeks.

She makes it to the hall of fame of biblical women that set example for how to come to Heaven's door of grace: as helpless, lacking reputation as dignity, vile, hopeless and miserable; and having no claim before the Lord — except for His mercy. Not only did the patience of this Syrophoenician and her non-taking offense earn her the miracle she sought; but she also warn herself the reputation of a great woman of faith. She became the pioneer of all who, not being Jews according to the flesh, are spiritual children of Abraham according to the spirit. And she set one more record: she became a living testimony to the fact that all who ask receive; all who seek find, and to all who knock, the door shall be opened. Beware of offense.

Quote for the Day: "Taking or giving offense is a spiritual sabotage of grace; a robber of blessings and a flaw of faith.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to be meek in spirit; to avoid offense and to follow the pathway of peace, in Jesus name. Amen.

I wish you a happy new month with all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
